Mary Immaculate Primary Newsletter Update

Term 1 Week 4: Monday 15th February 2021

Religious Coordinator's Message

Mary Immaculate held their Opening School Mass for 2021 last Friday 12th of February, presided by Father Oliver in our Multipurpose Area. This was a significant gathering of our community as we have not gathered for a whole school Mass since the 6th of March, 2020 before the restrictions of COVID. We held a small ceremony to commission our Year 6 Student Leaders and welcomed our new Kindergartens “to the family” as we have traditionally done at MIPS each year. Unfortunately due to NSW Health and CEDP COVID restrictions we were unable to have families join us this year but our amazing IT Learning Leader, Mrs. Rachel Gotsis has put together the highlights from the Mass so parents and families will be able to access this from our Facebook page shortly. We pray for a time when we can return to having our parents and families join us once again for our celebrations and return to Parish Church.

Anaphylactic Student Awareness

Mary Immaculate Primary has several students who have severe allergic reaction to nuts and other allergens. This reaction is called Anaphylaxis. It is a severe, rapidly progressive allergic reaction that is potentially life threatening and requires urgent treatment.

As a preventative measure could we please ask you to consider the students in our school who are at risk of anaphylaxis by:

  • Avoid sending food to school which has nuts or nut products in.
  • Teach your child to respect children who have food allergies.
  • Teach your child not to share food, drink, food utensils or containers with anyone.
  • Encourage your child to wash their hands before and after eating.
  • Ask your child to get help immediately if their allergic schoolmate gets sick.

Absent Explanation Reminder

If your child is sick or absent you are required to notify the school. All explanations for absences must be provided within 7 days of the first day of any period of absence.

Absences can be explained using one of the following methods:

  • Online: log the absence directly using (Skool Bag App)
  • Email the school: mimmac@parra.catholic.edu.au
  • Telephone the school office:  (02) 9933 7800
  • Note sent with your child
  • Where an explanation has not been received within the 7 day timeframe or the explanation has not been accepted, the school will record the absence as unexplained or unjustified on the student’s record. The school will not be able to accept explanations which are not received within the 7 day timeframe.

    Updating Student Details

It is imperative to have up-to-date correct contact details for all our students. In case of an emergency, current mobile numbers for parents and emergency contacts are required to notify parents.

We also request an email address for each parent, as receipts for any payments at the school are emailed as confirmation of payment.

Change of details forms are available from the school office, Skoolbag app and school website.

Also, If your child has become an Australian Citizen recently please provide the school office with a copy of the  Australian Citizenship Certificate so your child's records can be updated.

Request for Catholic Scripture Volunteer Teachers/Helpers

Mary Immaculate Parish currently requires Catholic Scripture volunteers to join their team to teach/help delivering Special Religious Education in the Public school system.

We currently cover five public schools, namely, Barnier, Hambledon, Quakers Hill East, Riverbank and Schofields covering 7 classes per week/school. Very soon the new public school  Galungara, Schofields will also be added to our parish.

Full training will be provided by the Diocese of Parramatta and all teaching resources by the parish. All scripture teachers/helpers (Catechists) are required by the Department of Education to undertake the Level One training course that includes Child Protection. Due to COVID-19, this course will be offered via Zoom. You will also be required to have a valid Working with Children’s Check (WWCC).
