Principal’s Report

Mrs Chant

Welcome to the last 3 weeks of school. In all classrooms you will see a buzzing hive of teaching, learning and assessment and our teachers working in their year levels teams with our Head of Department – Curriculum to plan for Term 2. Please ensure your child comes to school each day so they don’t miss out on school.

Due to weather, the Cross Country Carnival tomorrow has needed to be rescheduled. At this stage, we are looking at all options, however, the unexpected rain this week has caused some challenges to hold it at the Beaudesert Show Grounds.

Please keep an eye out on the SkoolBag app for further information.

Weather permitting, District Cross Country is planned to held on Tuesday 23rd March from 3:30pm – 5:00pm at Emmaus College. Students representing our school will be invited to participate and we ask families to keep this date free to transport their child to and from the event.

A few reminders to all families:

Electronic Devices at school (including mobile phones and cameras)

All electronic devices must be handed in at the office at the beginning of the school day and collected after school. This includes mobile phones, iPods and smart watches with the capacity to take photos or text message.

Electronic devices are not permitted to be used on school grounds including while waiting in the bus line.

Deodorant at school

We appreciate that some students feel like they need to apply deodorant at school. Please note aerosols are not permitted in any school. Roll on deodorant options must be used by all students.

Students on school grounds after hours

It has come to our attention that students are accessing the school grounds well after the end of the school day. There is no formal supervision for students after school hours beyond bus duty which is to supervise students in the bus line only. Please ensure you are aware of your children at the end of the school day to ensure they are not on school grounds.

Parent helpers needed

Do you have a few spare hours to help us erect a garden shed, garden beds and outside tables for the Ecole Street parent waiting area? We would love your help!

We would love to have some volunteers to help our Grounds Officer, Simon, as they are more than a one person job.

Please contact the front office with your name and preferred day on 5540 1111.

Parents at Parade

I appreciate that parents are looking forward to attending parade. If we exceed the adult capacity in the hall, the current COVID safe guidelines require all adults to wear masks, which we have been working around.

At the next P&C meeting on Tuesday 23rd March from 6:30pm in the Administration building (staffroom) we will review our current actions and consult on a plan for Term 2 parade. You are most welcome to join us at this meeting.

Police visit – Road Safety and Bullying (including online bullying)

On Monday 29th March, we will welcome our local police officers to speak on parade about road safety and how to keep safe over the upcoming holidays.

On Tuesday 30th March, the officers will be back to work with Year 4, 5 and 6 on bullying prevention including cyber bullying to help equip our students with knowledge and skills to remain safe over the holidays.

I am working alongside the Federal police and the ThinkYKnow program to coordinate specific cyberbullying information sessions for our students and parent community. Once this is confirmed I will let you know.

Easter Bonnet activities and parade

All students and parents in Prep – Year 2 are welcome to join us for Easter activities and an Easter bonnet parade on Thursday 1st April from 1:45pm. Please speak to your classroom teacher for further information on this exciting afternoon.

IMPORTANT: H Block removal over the holidays

Over the Easter holidays we will have several contractors on site to remove H Block which contains asbestos. H Block is currently empty; however, the removal requires that there are NO members of the public, Department of Education staff or Dental Clinic staff/clients on site for the entire 2 week period. Contractors are exempt from this rule.

Once completed we will have an outdoor learning space for the whole school to access and I look forward to how our teachers use this space for our students.

In addition, a list of WHS jobs will be completed, the Prep boundary fence will be replaced and shade structures will be installed over the front playground and in the Prep/Year 1 area to create additional outdoor learning spaces.

Take care,

Angela

Our Classroom Report

Our Classroom Report - Year 2

Can you spot the extended noun groups in the following sentence?

***Lucy Goosey landed on the blue, glistening pond with her flippy, flappy feet.***

Need some help? Ask a Year 2 student!

Year 2 students have been learning to write a story using extended noun groups to describe characters and settings, which helps to build a picture in the reader’s mind. Please enjoy these excellent examples of student work:

“Sweety Cheety is a kind, happy cheetah.”

“Lucy was saving Bob from the deep, deep, deep pool and Bob is relieved.”

“’Weee!’ Screamed Lucy and her friend Zoe Zebra going down a slippery bumpy slide.”

“Lucy’s mum Matilda went to the shop and sneakily tiptoed out of the orange, quiet house.”

“Whoosh! The firey, hot rocket flew past the moon.”

“Gee Pee is a strong, cool chicken.”

Scenic Rim 9s GALA DAY

The students that attended the Scenic Rim Gala Day kicked up a storm of Rugby League skills at the Thunder dome. The day began with a tackle ready session for our students to learn a better way to tackle and refine their tackle technique, ready to put into practice during their games. The enthusiasm shown by our students was excellent and matched some excellent gameplay. The Gala day brings together students from all levels of ability to play rugby league together. Thank you for the support provided by the NRL team to put on the event, the Host club Jimboomba Thunder and the wonderful parents who made it possible for our students to experience Rugby League at school. Ms Gauld and Mr Humphries shared a number of highlights about the feats of skill we saw on the day and look forward to training up our Kingfisher Cup Teams later in the year. Students who attended the GALA day were drawn in a raffle to choose from the goodie bags the NRL provided for the day as a sweet way to end a great day of rugby league play.
