Mr Carr's Report

Class Structure for 2022:

In 2022 we will have 11 classes consisting of two Kindergarten classes, three Stage 1 classes, three Stage 2 classes and three Stage 3 classes. By operating with our stage class model teachers will be able to work in teams to provide high quality learning and wellbeing outcomes for our students. Our classes will also have relatively small student numbers so we maximise the one-on-one time students receive from their teacher. We are very much looking forward to a very successful year in 2022.

P&C Update:

Our P&C elections were held at our AGM on Wednesday evening. I’d like to formally announce and congratulate our elected P&C office bearer representatives; President – Kirsti Haracz, Vice President – Corinne Smith, Vice President – Lucy Cramp, Treasurer – Ryan Cramp, and Secretary – Catherine Ruhl. I’d also like to congratulate elected co-ordinator leaders; Grants – Sarah Clack and Environmental – Rachael Best. We are hopeful we will build our amazing team by filling the remaining positions, fundraising co-ordinator and social media, and communications co-ordinator. We are so blessed to have such an outstanding team of dedicated members and encourage all parents and carers to consider being part of such an energetic and pragmatic group in support of our students, staff and school.

University of Newcastle – Fundamental Movement Skills Research:

Earlier this week researchers came out from the University of Newcastle to work with our students in K-2. They we thoroughly impressed by the level of skill our students demonstrated through their testing. The research team will be coming out again in Week 9 to work with our students and have expressed an interest to continue to work with our students and the school in 2022. This is an exciting prospect for our students and teachers, as our partnership with the University of Newcastle continues to grow.

Student Leadership Team 2022:

Our Year 5 students running for School Leadership representation in 2022 have worked hard over the last few weeks attending a leadership development day, undertaking talks and workshops on the characteristics of leadership, and writing their speeches to be considered for our available positions. We have 16 students putting themselves forward for our 6 available leadership positions. We are very excited about the depth of leadership we have in this group and look forward to announcing our school leadership team very soon. In Week 9 we will also be working on elections for Sports House Captains. These positions will be announced at our Sports Presentation Assembly at the end of Week 9.

Maintaining High Standards:

As we approach the final weeks of the year we have been reminding students that our expectations and standards don’t change. With students being restricted to defined areas of the playground during breaks, so we stay safe in our ‘COVID Bubbles’, we have seen a recent increase in ‘hands on play’. We would appreciate parents and carers supporting the school by reinforcing the message from home that as a school we value the high standards we expect from our students, and want to see our students ‘Striving to do well’ in all aspects of their schooling all the way through to the last day of the year. Our students have been amazing across yet another disrupted year…so we want to see them finish strong!

NAIDOC Day:

COVID got in the way of celebrating NAIDOC day with community earlier this year, so we are looking to end the year with a great community event in the final week of Term 4. Fingers crossed we will be at a COVID-Safe Operation Level that will allow parents, carers, grandparents and community to join us onsite for these celebrations. More information will be shared with the community as we get closer to Week 11.

Welcome Back Mr Hellier:

Mr Hellier has been unwell and has been on leave since the end of Term 2.  We are pleased to announce that Mr Hellier's recovery is on track and that he is returning to work three days per week for the remainder of 2021, with plans in place for his return to full-time work in 2022.  A big thank you to Mr Andrews for his outstanding work, teaching and caring for 6/5H in Mr Hellier's absence.

Regards,

Brett Carr

Student pick-ups during school hours

If there is an occasion when you need to take your child out of school during the scheduled school hours, please contact the office via phone or email the morning of the pickup - advising;

  • your child's name and class
  • the reason for the early leavers pass
  • time of pickup required

Our class teachers and office staff require notice - on some occasions students may be on the 'Park' area doing class sport or other activities outside of their classrooms where phone or the PA system is unavailable.

Please remain OUTSIDE of the front gates, call the office and your child will be walked out to you by our office staff.

Your assistance with this matter is appreciated and is important to the schedule of our teachers and office staff.

Contact our office ASAP for 2022 enrolments

Coping with COVID

Can my child go to school?

  • My child has a runny nose - does that mean they have to stay home?  If your child has a tendency to get hayfever (runny nose, sneezing) visit your GP and get a certificate which negates the requirement for a negative test
  • My child has a yukky nose drip and a sore throat - does that mean they have to stay at home? If your  child is showing signs or part signs of Covid, then you need to get a negative test result before they  can return to school (sore throat, temp. coughing or loss of taste)

If you are in doubt at anytime of the appropriate steps, consult your GP for more information.

A combination of layered safety measures – vaccination, wearing masks, student cohorting, physical distancing,  ventilation, hygiene and cleaning - allows us to prioritise student and staff wellbeing while we keep schools operational.
