Level 3 Roadmap

The Department of Education has confirmed that schools will be moving from 'Level 3 Plus' to 'Level 3' guidelines next Monday 8th November. As a reminder, here’s what our families and student can expect when returning to Level 3 conditions:

- All Staff on site will be required to be double vaccinated and wear masks indoors. Masks or face coverings are strongly recommended for primary students.

- We will continue to minimise mingling of cohorts where possible. Modified outdoor assemblies are allowed within guidelines.

- We have additional learning programs in place to support students after the learning from home period.

NSW Health will continue to monitor vaccination rates and transmission levels in our LGA and will advise us if settings need re-evaluation.

Please see Department of Education website for further information - https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/advice-for-families

Attendance

As we move through the coming weeks, we predict there will be a variety of scenarios around student attendance and ask you to consider the following information:

- Learning from home programs have ceased as staff have returned to face to face teaching.

- Students who are isolating as a close contact or due to a person in the same household being a close contact will need to provide evidence (i.e. text message) from NSW Health unless the school has previously been informed by NSW Health.

- Students who are not sick but have a medical condition that puts them at increased risk will require a Doctor’s Certificate issued in no longer than 2 weekly increments stating they are unable to attend school. Any other situations will need to be managed on an individual basis.

-Students in the above categories can access the Department of Education Learning from Home Hub - https://education.nsw.gov.au/inside-the-department/leading-educational-continuity/guided-learning-packages

Students will be required to provide some evidence of engagement to their class teacher to be deemed to be working Flexibly. Evidence could be uploading photos to Class Dojo, or completing online activities such as  Reading Eggs, Sound Waves online, Literacy Pro, Mathletics or Prodigy.

Students who have COVID-like symptoms should be tested. We ask for a screen shot of a negative result to be emailed to the school or forwarded to your child's teacher through Class Dojo.

Students who are sick or who have flu like symptoms need to stay at home until they are well, or they have no symptoms. All other students should be at school.

Thank you for your ongoing support and I hope everyone stays safe and well during these unpredictable times.

Thank you

We would like to thank Pelican/Blacksmiths Sustainable Neighbourhood Group who have planted some trees in the school area next to the playground. We can't wait to see them starting to grow. Thank you all for making our school beautiful.

Kindergarten 2022 - Enrol now

We are very excited that, starting next week, Kindergarten transition sessions may start. We have sent home notes today to families and will have our first transition session on Friday 12th November.

Children can start Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn 5, on or before 31 July that year. By law, all children must be in compulsory schooling by their 6th birthday. Remember Kindergarten is designed for children who are 5 years of age.

When your child starts school is an individual decision. You may wish to discuss this with your child's preschool teacher, carer, doctor or our school staff. Our teachers are trained to work with your child regardless of their age or level of development.

Children develop at different rates and learn skills in different ways. Your school will respond to the needs, learning styles and rates of progress of individual students. Schools also plan learning experiences based on the skills students bring with them to school.

We are now taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2022. To complete your online enrolment please visit our school website at https://pelicanflt-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/ and click on the ENROLMENT button at the top of the page. Please phone the school on 49711543 if you have any questions. Thank you. If you know of someone who has a child enrolling in 2022, please ask them to enrol online.

Book Week

We are organising a day where students will be able to wear their Book Week costumes to school and will let you know when we have finalised this.

At Pelican Flat PS we celebrate Book Week on our Education Extravaganza day (18th August). On this day we encourage students to come dressed in something related to the Book Week theme (2021 Theme is 'Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds') or as a character from a book. During the last session of the day we have an assembly and ask the students to parade their costumes. Please discuss the theme with your child and start to organise your costume.
