School News

COVID-19 Update

Restrictions have continued to ease across NSW. All schools previously on Level 3 Plus have now been lower to Level 3. All schools across NSW are now operating under the same set of restrictions. The full set of operating guidelines can be found at:

https://education.nsw.gov.au/inside-the-department/covid-19/advice-for-school-based-staff/level-3-schools

Science Fair

Our Science Fair was held last week. We had some amazing projects presented at our first Science Fair Event. Our students really appreciated the opportunity to share their knowledge with others. We had such a diverse set of projects. Despite the complications associated with COVID preventing our Science Fair from operating during Science Week, we had a great experience. We look forward to future fair events in 2022.

Kinder Orientation

Our Orientation program has finally been given the green light with the easing of restrictions and the shift to Level 3. We will see our new Kindergarten students visit our small school on:

Friday 19 November & Friday 3 December between 1.40 and 3.00pm.

We will post images of this event on the school Facebook page.

Small Schools Spelling Challenge

Some of our students will have the opportunity to compete against other small schools across NSW for the Small Schools Spelling Challenge. This event will be conducted online and hosted by the amazing team at the Arts Unit, who conduct the Premiers Spelling Bee. We will provide more information as it arises.

Public Speaking Competition

The Small Schools across out region will also compete in the Directors Public Speaking Competition on Thursday 25 November. This is also the first of its kind and we look forward to listening to the amazing speeches that our students create.

Presentation Day 2022

Our 2022 Presentation Day is scheduled for Thursday 9 December and will begin at 9.30am. Currently, we are unable to have external visitors part of this experience. We will record the event and post on YouTube on this day. We encourage you to keep the date in your diary, in the event restrictions ease and we can have visitors attending this event.

Remembrance Day 2021

Sadly, our Covid restrictions did not allow our community to share this event with us this year. However, we commemorated the fallen at school at 11am. We have added photos of this event on YouTube and we have recorded our service and uploaded this to YouTube,

Farewell Mr Rayner

Friday 12 November marks Mr Rayner's last day at Captains Flat PS. Mr Rayner has recently received notification of his ability to teach in NSW schools. He will spend the last few weeks of the school year teaching in the High School at Braidwood Central School. We thank you for all that you have done for the students of Captains Flat Public School over the years, we wish you the best of luck with your chosen career path and look forward to hearing of your future success.

News From Around The School

Spot the Pattern

The Green Group used their mathematical skills to find creative ways to identify patterns. Once the rule of the pattern was determined, students were able to utilise this knowledge to solve more difficult mathematical problems.

Debating

Years 3-6 have been looking at the structure of debating and how to write a strong argument for a debate. Our students worked in teams to write a for and against argument for whether school should finish at 1pm! The debates ran really well as students were able to play the roles of 'time keepers' and 'chairperson'. Here is Oliver's team doing an amazing job convincing his peers to finish school early!

Volume and Capacity

Students in Years K-2 have started investigating volume and capacity! We helped a wizard and his cats order his potions and looked at which containers had the highest and lowest capacity by filling them up with sand! It was a very exciting and messy activity but there was lots of fun!
