February 17, 2022 - Term 1 Week 3

Acknowledgement of Country

From the Principal

Principal's Pen

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the school community.  First and foremost, I am a family man and consider myself incredibly fortunate to have two children under the age of five, Harrison and Darcy, who keep my amazing wife and I on our toes and enrich our lives.  I both have a passion for education, having worked in metropolitan and country public schools over the past thirteen years and spending time teaching abroad in the United Kingdom.  I have been a school leader since 2013 and enjoy working collaboratively with all members of the school community to ensure individual and collective achievement, both in a social and academic sense.  I am very appreciative of the opportunity to join such a cohesive, professional and organised school, and have been warmly welcomed.  I have been in contact with Mr Meston this week and can confirm he is recovering well and looking forward to returning in Term 2.  We wish him all the best for the coming months.

As you would have no doubt seen, I recently sent home information pertaining to vacant positions on the Glengarry Primary School Board.  As it stands, I have received a number of nominations and intend to run a formal election process, as per the DoE guidelines.  You can expect to see further information being sent home soon outlining the next steps in this process.  I would like to thank those who have already put their hands up and encourage others to nominate.  All nominations need to be sent to matthew.pinkard@education.wa.edu.au by 3:00pm Friday 18 February, 2022.

Finally, on behalf of the staff at Glengarry Primary School, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of all school community members in adhering to the COVID guidelines we have implemented recently.  We have a focus on ensuring students’ daily lives at school are kept as normal and routine as possible throughout this process, while still following the advice of the Chief Health Officer and Director General of Education.  All of the adjustments we have made are about minimising risk for our students and the broader school community.  We were advised midweek that a decision had been made to allow playgroups to run on-site in a modified format in WA schools, as long as strict protocols were adhered to.  We have worked closely with our playgroup providers to ensure we meet the necessary requirements.  Should you have questions relating to our COVID response, please use the above email address or phone the school to book a meeting.

Important Information

iPad Device Setup – What you need to know

1.  Students from Room 5, 6 and 12 who have a device can bring it to school on Tuesday 15/2, Monday 21/2 and Tuesday 22/2 for the iPad to be set up by the school integrator.

2. The Jamf Supervision Profile will be added to the device which allows the school to add all educational apps for free. This process will wipe the device clean, so we recommend that you don’t add too much to new devices before sending them to school.

3. It is important to note that you cannot restore a backup after Jamf has been added, so any files or photos should be saved to another device.

4. Once the Jamf Supervision Profile has been added, your child will have their iPad returned to them. They will not be required to bring their iPad back to school until Monday Week 5, when the 1:1 Technology Program will commence.

5. If your child’s iPad has not arrived prior to the implementation of the program in Week 5, they will have access to a shared device. This iPad will not be permitted to go home and will be shared among a number of students.

Please note all 1:1 Technology Program documentation that has been sent to parents is also available on the school website, this includes Glengarry Primary Schools 1:1 Technology Program Guidelines: http://www.glengarry.wa.edu.au/ourschool.php?id=99

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

Please do not send your child to school if they are at all unwell.  A child who is sick will not be able to perform well in school and is likely to spread the illness to other children and staff.

Any child who demonstrates or complains of being unwell will be removed from the classroom, isolated and parents/carers contacted.

Our school is well stocked with hand sanitiser.  This has been provided to all work areas (including classrooms) and children are expected to “sanitise out / sanitise in” at all times.  Cleaning of hands following toilet use is also instructed.
