TERM 1 WEEK 3, 2022

A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents/ Carers,

It is a pleasure to see children back at school for the 2022 school year. Despite some challenges presented by the COVID situation we have had a settled and productive start to the year. The positive side to our current restrictions is that we have more uninterrupted  time to focus on learning.  Our Kindergarten and preschool children have done an amazing job of waving goodbye at the gate and walking into class. Thank you to parents and carers who have assisted at pick up and drop off times by being in the right place and following routines.

We are implementing a range of measures to support good hygiene and reduce any risk of COVID infection. This includes increased ventilation in rooms, children remaining within their class cohort when indoors, split lunch and recess time to reduce mixing in the playground, extra cleaning throughout the day, mask wearing by all staff and Rapid Antigen Testing by teachers and students. Families can assist by not sending children to school if they are unwell and rapid antigen testing,  if children have COVID  symptoms.  If there is a positive case in our school community which may have been in contact with your child's grade you will get a notification of this and you should monitor your child for symptoms. If your child is deemed a household contact of a case or they test positive we will be able to provide them with work to continue schooling. Please remember to notify us if your child tests positive or if they are deemed a close contact and need to isolate.

Our staff for 2022 are listed in this newsletter. There has been very little staff change with Mrs Mufale going on Maternity leave. Ms Rich and Ms MacKenzie have returned from leave. We also have a new school psychologist Ms Mariam Tannous.

Works on playgound equipment and play area in our main playground is underway and hopefully will be completed soon. See the photos in this newsletter.

At the beginning of Terms 1,2 and 3 staff participate in training or school development days. In Term 1 we worked on adjusting units of work so that we could easily support children whose attendance is impacted by either COVID illness or isolation requirements. We also participated in training for a synthetics phonics teaching program. We are also varying the end of Term 4 day to participate in two further workshops  for the synthetic phonics program. The workshops will be held in Term one after school and will not impact student attendance.

regards,

Gabrielle Buczynski
