Dear Parents & Caregivers,
We would like to thank you for your understanding and support over the past week while we were asked to isolate and stay home. We were all waiting for directions to ensure we were keeping ourselves and each other safe. We are grateful that we were only asked to close the school for two days and were all able to return this week with some slight modifications to minimise the risk. It was wonderful seeing the children and staff return to school. The thought of not being able to finish the year together was quite concerning and although there have been some minor changes put into place; students leaving their parents at the school gate, minimising the amount of visitors entering the school grounds, we are hopeful that with these slight changes we will be able to finish our year enjoying the events as planned or with little or no further tweaks.
Our Pupil Free Day that has been planned for Monday, 30th November will go ahead. Staff will be continuing to develop their expertise in analysing and reviewing student data in readiness for 2021. Teachers and staff will learn together in the afternoon to participate in transgender professional development.
Despite the pandemic and the restrictions placed upon us we have found different ways of continuing our learning and recognition of Remembrance Day with our Campus Students Leadership Team students working together with Mrs Molloy to produce a Remembrance Day video which was viewed in classrooms by all students on Campus just before recess. The choir performed at our last assembly and the junior choir students have been videoed for parents to watch them sing on the Music Blog.
Our new Reception students have completed their transition visits and we are looking forward to seeing them start their schooling with us on Wednesday, 27th January 2021 along with some other new students who have also enrolled at our school in 2021. This year we have not only Year 7 students graduating to high school, but also six Year 6 students who will be graduating to start high school as Year 7’s. A formal Graduation dinner and ceremony is planned for the Year 7 students on Tuesday, 8th December and for the Year 6 students on Thursday, 10th December. Next year we will be celebrating the graduation of all our Year 6 and Year 7 students as all students will start high school in 2022. The Year 7 assembly is planned for Friday, 8th December. This assembly is a time for the Year 7 students to celebrate their years at primary school and be farewelled by their Year 6 buddies. Due to COVID restrictions the number of parents attending these events is reduced, hence we have booked a videographer to video these events. A link will be provided to the parents of the Year 7 students so that this important milestone can be enjoyed, remembered, and shared with other family members. Due to the smaller number of graduating Year 6 students less restrictions apply to this event, hence at this point in time, parents will be able to attend to enjoy this milestone with their child and capture their own memories.
Unfortunately, we were unable to acknowledge our valuable volunteers who had been nominated for the VAMOF Award last Friday due to the SA circuit breaker ordered by the Minister and SA Health. This assembly will be rescheduled to early 2021. We look forward to inviting these special people back into our school to acknowledge them and award our worthy participant the perpetual trophy.
If you are interested in volunteering your time in anyway in 2021 please provide your name to Jayne, myself, Lisa or your child’s classroom teacher as this will assist us in our planning. You do not always need to be available during the school day as there are many ways of volunteering out of hours or in different areas throughout the school and Campus: Governing Council, library, canteen, sport – coaching or team manager, Pedal Prix fundraising – Thiele or Campus, committees, mentoring, classroom support, garden and the list goes on.
I hope you enjoy the Nature advent calendar with your child/ren. Download the Nature Play Advent Calendar, and discover 24 days of fun and engaging nature play activities to take part in.
Kind Regards,
Sharon Willoughby
