Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our Kindergarten students have had their first week at school and are settling in well, learning all the new routines and rules and discovering the world of ‘big’ school. Thank you to all our Year 6 Buddies for providing a cheerful welcome to school, working with the students in the classroom and reassuring them in the playground.

To stay involved in all of our school's information and events it is important to access the numerous ways below;

SCHOOL LEADERS

At the end of year presentation we announced the school leaders for 2021. This year our Captains are Matilda Dawes and Patrick Hayes. Our Vice Captains are Breanna Lewis and Chase Marron.

HOUSE CAPTAINS

Last week the students voted in their sporting houses for their House Leaders. It was hotly contested and resulted in each house voting in three leaders each.

Rosella House Leaders-  Connor Singe, Emma Davies, Tyler Hatton

Honeyeaters House Leaders- Chase Murray, Amelie Anker, Mitchell Pelkman

Finches House Leaders- Drew Thompson, Ruby Beard, Lucy Austin

Congratulations to all these students. We look forward to a solid year of fabulous role models and leadership.

VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

A great public school is made great with both the support provided by the Department of Education and the contributions made by the community. Schools also have the ability to enhance their educational and sporting programs by collecting voluntary contributions from parents. This means funding for those extra resources to support programs to enhance the teaching and learning, and ultimately the educational outcomes, of our students. We have kept the level of voluntary contributions per year to $30 per student or $35 per family, to a minimum to make this contribution affordable to all.

PUBLISHING/LOCAL WALKING/INTERNET PERMISSION NOTE

Notes requesting student information and permissions for publishing photos, walking to activities in the local area and internet use will be sent home today by class teachers. Please complete these forms and return to class teacher promptly.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION UPDATE NOTE

Each year the school receives funding based on the Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI). Schools are required to seek updated information regarding parental education level and occupation. The aim of updating this information is to best reflect the profile of our school community to ensure we receive an accurate funding entitlement. While there is no obligation to complete the form, a high level of completion and accuracy is appreciated. The information you provide is held confidentially here at school, however the Department of Education (DoE) periodically harvests the data in an aggregated, anonymous form in order to compile the FOEI. If you have any questions or need assistance with the form please do not hesitate to contact the school office. Please complete this form and return to the front office as soon as possible.

BELL CHANGES

We have established a new bell routine throughout the day. Our first session of the morning will still be 2 hours then we will be breaking for our lunch, or longer break at 11:10 till 11:50. The students are encouraged to eat their lunch at this time. They will then be back in class for another 2 hours and will break at 1:50pm for their recess or afternoon tea. Change always takes a little while to become routine and feel comfortable. The teachers and the students are both experiencing the effects of this change and are slowly getting accustomed to it. The value of having a longer break and more food earlier in the day is beneficial to the concentration and stamina for all. Please be patient with your children as they adapt to the new routine.

CANTEEN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Our canteen is a valuable fundraiser for our school. Students enjoy seeing parents and grandparents helping in the canteen. If you can spare a day or even a few hours any day to help in the canteen it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact the school on 6553 4443.

ROAD SAFETY

Now that students are back to school after a break it’s a good time to chat with your child about safe behaviours when you walk, pick up by car or commute to school.

Here are our top tips to help our students make a safe trip:

1. Be alert and aware

Take note of the dangers you come across on your walk and bring them to your child’s attention. Point out dangers, such as vehicles coming out of driveways. Talk to your child about being alert in a road environment.

2. Hold hands

When on the footpath, at a crossing or in a car park always hold your child's hand. It is advised to do this up to the age of at least 8 years old and closely supervise until at least the age of 10.

3. Choose a safe crossing

Lead by example and choose a safe place to cross the road. Explain why it is the safest place to cross.

4. Set a good example

Your child watches everything you do, so if you cross at the crossing they will too. It is also important to share these messages with other carers who may walk with your child to school.

5. Stop, Look, Listen, Think every time you cross the road

Discuss this important road safety message. STOP! one step back from the kerb. LOOK! continuously both ways. LISTEN! for the sounds of approaching traffic. THINK! whether it is safe to cross.

The SkoolBag app is the easiest way keep up with school events, last minute notices, newsletters and all school communications.
