Term 2 Week 2

From the Principal

Term 2 Week 2 2021

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Term 2 has well and truly begun, and our students are commended for a great start to the term. It has been wonderful seeing them apply themselves so well to their learning and in looking after themselves and each other in both class and the playground.

Check-In Assessments and NAPLAN

Next week our Year 4 and 6 students will participate in a reading and numeracy Check-in Assessment. This is a NSW Department of Education online Assessment and supports schools to assess and monitor student progress.

In Week 4 our Year 3 and 5 students will undertake their NAPLAN testing. NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum. The assessment provides parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at the time of the tests and how their learning progresses over time. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance.

Little Librarians

Our Little Librarians program resumed this week and continues each Tuesday from 10:00am to 11:00am. This program is open to all younger children who are not yet school age. Come along and join us for a storytime and other activities!

Bunnings Visit

Yesterday Lithgow Public were visited by Kylie and Yvette from Lithgow Bunnings. Kylie and Yvette worked with students from several classes, led by Mrs Clare Crum to tend our school vegetable garden. Our students had a great time weeding, preparing and planting a range of plants for the garden. Many thanks to the staff at Lithgow Bunnings for working with the students and to Mrs Crum for her organisation.

Uniform Survey

Our School P&C is seeking feedback from our school community regarding the school uniform with this initial survey:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CK2FNZY

This survey will guide the P&C and school as to whether any changes or refinements are needed to the school uniform. Please take the time to complete the survey – your feedback is greatly valued. The survey is open until Friday 14 May.

Kinder Wombats Twinkle

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Last Term Kinder Wombats sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.  We painted our paper yellow and drew the stars and cut them out. We glued them onto a black background to make our Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars in the night sky stand out.

We added a picture of ourselves, talked about our favourite things and  discussed that we are all different. We wrote our names and drew all of the things that make us who we are. We know that it is okay to be different! We are very proud of our work!

Sydney Writers Festival Excursion

On Friday 30 April 50 of our excited students met their coffee deprived teachers at 5:20am to catch a train to the Sydney Writers Festival. They were mesmerized by authors such as Nat Amoore, Andrew McDonald, Ben Wood, Emily Rodda and Jessica Townsend. The students learn't how the authors were inspired to create their novels and were hopefully inspired to create their own stories. We can't wait to see all the stories the children come up with in the future.

Lithgow Bunnings Visit

Thank You Bunnings Lithgow

Lithgow Bunnings Staff  donated their time and winter seedlings to plant in our garden beds. They worked along side our students on Thursday  to get the planting done in the beautiful weather. We now have herbs and veggies that need to be kept alive.

A big thank you to Lithgow Bunnings
