Principal's Report

Dear Students, Parents , Carers and Families,

Welcome back to term 2 here at Wyong. I trust that all of our students have had an enjoyable break and are back ready to learn. A huge welcome to any new students and their families who have enrolled at Wyong Public School this term.

I would like to extend a genuine thank you to the staff, students and parents/carers of Wyong Public School for their support to myself as Relieving Principal. As our COVID restrictions are gradually lifting it is allowing us to invite parents and the community back into our school, so I am looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting more members of our school community.

Lifting of restrictions has also enabled our students to participate in events outside of our school. Recently our students have had the opportunity to participate in debating, netball, Choral Festival rehearsals, zone cross country, ANZAC Day Ceremony and an overnight excursion to Canberra. I am pleased to say that our students represented our school with enthusiasm, pride and they conducted themselves in a manner that was nothing but impeccable.

NAPLAN

During week 4 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday students in years 3 and 5 will undertake  the 2021 National Assessment Program—Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). The results of these assessment will be used to drive teaching and learning in our school. Parents/carers will receive a report indicating your child’s level of achievement against the national minimum standard. If your child is absent on any of these days there will be a catch up day so that they do not miss out on the opportunity.

Mothers Day

Mothers Day is on the horizon and our P & C have generously donated their time to run a Mothers Day stall. This will take place on Wednesday 5th May and Thursday 6th May 2021. In addition to this, we are inviting all of our mums to attend our Mothers Day breakfast at 7am on Friday 7th May 2021. We look forward to seeing you there.

Have a fantastic weekend and stay safe.

Kind regards

Vicki Arnot

Relieving Principal

ANZAC Day 2021

On Sunday 25th April 2021, our school was represented by our Vice-Captains Penny Carpenter and Thomas Doran, who laid a wreath on behalf of Wyong Public School, at the Wyong RSL club memorial service.

On Monday 26th April we as a school remembered the men and women who have served and are still serving for us. An ANZAC ceremony was held by the school leaders and Mrs Arnot, along with the school choir and Didge group. Thomas recited an Anzac Day poem “Sir”, by Damien Morgan.  Mrs Arnot spoke of her time with her grandmother and how Rosemary signifies the remembrance of the soldiers and still grows wild in Gallipoli to this day. We were delighted to have our school choir sing “We are Australian”, it has been some time since we have been able to listen to their beautiful voices. Representatives from each class, Kindergarten to Year 6, laid wreaths to surround the Australian flag, in memory of our soldiers.  The Ode was delivered and the Last Post played, before having a minutes silence.

Our display wall, outside the library, has been filled with artwork created by many students from our school showing learned respect and remembering the soldiers who have fallen.

P&C Mother's Day Events

Mother's Day Stall

In week 3 our P&C will be running a Mother's Day Stall for students to purchase gifts for their loved ones. Gifts range from $1 to $6. Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 will be able to visit the stall on Wednesday 5th May and those in Year 3-6 on Thursday 6th May

Leftover gifts will also be sold at the Mother's Day Breakfast on Friday 7th May.

The P&C need helpers to come in and wrap gifts on either Wednesday (9am-12.15pm) or Thursday (9am-1pm), or both. Even if you can only come for an hour the help will be greatly appreciated. Please contact the school office if you are available.

Mother's Day Raffle

Raffle tickets have been sent home and must be returned by Thursday 6th May. Additional raffle tickets are available at the office and will also be sold at the Mother's Day Breakfast on Friday.
