Term 4 Week 2: Friday 15th October 2021

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

Gospel focus

As parents and teachers, we often wonder if our children are listening to what we say. In the Gospel this Sunday Jesus is questioning if people are hearing and understanding what he is saying. Throughout his ministry he constantly questioned his Apostles, the chosen ones in a similar vein. The Gospel message for all listeners this week is about” focussing on the needs of others listening them and leading by empowering and uplifting- make the sacrifice to assist in your daily life in the service of others”

Welcome back to term 4 2021.  We welcome back our students to school for the final seven weeks of the school year. The final term of the year presents us with several challenges as we wind down to the conclusion of a most challenging year in many aspects [especially scholastically] due to the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic and the extended lockdown. The NSW State Government has mandated that students will be required to return to face to face learning at school. Kindergarten and Yr 1 students will return by 18th with Yrs 2-6 returning on Monday 25th October. Once students return to school on these designated days, online remote learning will cease. It is our intention to focus intently over the final weeks of the term on the literacy, numeracy and RE outcomes of each of our students.  The expectation is that all students will return over the next week ready to engage in their studies as their main priority.

Yesterday a return to school communication was distributed to families of Kindergarten and Year 1 students as they prepare to begin school next Monday. COVID safe protocols and procedures were outlined in the communication. An updated email will be distributed mid next week to all families as there will be further amendments to protocols and procedures as we welcome back the remainder of students [Yrs 2-6] on the 25th of October. It is imperative that all members of our community adhere to the outlined requirements to insure the health and wellbeing of our students teachers and parents.

Unfortunately, due to the recent COVID lockdown over the last four months Welcomeasy our online lunch order service has ceased trading. Therefore lunch orders will not be available for the remainder of the year. I am working in consultation with CEDP in sourcing a new online lunch service for next year.

It is anticipated that weekend masses will resume at Christ the King Parish from the weekend 23rd/24th October. This will be confirmed later next week as COVID -19 milestones are reached and restrictions reviewed.

Our Kindergarten 2020 zoom Parent Information evening will be held this Tuesday night 19th Oct commencing at 7pm. Zoom invitations will be emailed to parents next week. If you have not received the email invitation, please contact the school office ASAP. We look forward to meeting with our new parents of our 2022 Kindergarten children.

Have a great week!

Tony Hughes

Principal

RE News

Today, we gathered together as a whole school in prayer on Zoom to commemorate the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Thank you to Year 3 and 4 who hosted a beautiful liturgy.

On this feast day, we remember that our mother Mary is someone we can go to in times of need. We can pray the Rosary to talk to her and ask her for help. Praying to Mary is also a way that we can talk to God. The Rosary gives us hope in hard times.

Praying the Rosary is like holding Mary’s hand.

Today we all prayed a decade of the rosary together as a school community and shared our needs with Mary.

As we return to school and normal life over the next few weeks, we ask Mary to hold our hand.

Library News

Online learning has given us the opportunity to have a good look through our library resources. Our goal has been to cull older, non relevant resources so that when the library re-opens next year, students will be delighted with a refreshed collection to keep them enthusiastic about reading. One of our main focuses has been to make our non fiction (factual) books more accessible. To complete this work we need all library resources returned when your child returns to school. Please have a look around the house and encourage your child to look for books from our library.

Students can continue to read using our eBook collection accessed through the library home page and most public libraries have reopened.

Contact me through the school library should you have any questions.

Lunch Orders are no longer available

Sadly, we have been advised that due to the COVID pandemic and the ongoing uncertainties, Welcomeasy has made the difficult decision to cease our school catering business.

We will keep you updated as to when we have a new 'lunch order' provider.

Captain's Chat

Welcome back everybody to Term 4. Congrats, it’s the final term of 2021!! You all have been doing so so well to be able to continue learning during this tough time. Thankfully, God has heard our prayers and we will be returning back to school soon! We are both so excited to see you all after a whole term.

Liturgy:

First, we will talk about the liturgy. Thank you to Mrs Wynne who planned the wonderful liturgy, celebrating Our Lady of the Rosary. A very big thank you to all of our wonderful Stage 2 readers who did a great job in our liturgy. Everyone did such a great job with the rosary and it was very special to be apart of it.

Going back to school:

We are so excited to go back to school in week 4 and are so happy that we are going to get back in routine and see each other again. We really hope that everyone is doing well and we hope you're ready to come back to normal school life. As we know Kindergarten and Year 1 are going a week early but stage two and three get to see them in another weeks time.

Conclusion

We cannot wait to see everyone again and are so excited that we can all be back together as a school. We are ready to have a good last term of 2021 at CTK and we are going to make it one of the best. See you all on Monday Week 4.
