Welcome all Families to Week 9

This Friday is our whole school Athletics Carnival down at Buz Brazel Oval. Students are to head straight down to the oval in the morning and also leave from there as no one will be physically on site at school. The bus will also drop and pick up students from the carnival. Parents/carers are welcome to attend this year, please remember that you will need to sign in. Thanks to the committed P & C for organising a canteen to operate on the day. Thank you to the willing parent volunteers who are facilitating the smooth running of the canteen or making delicious cakes, biscuits or slices for the kids, go team! Students in Flinders can wear blue running clothes while Oxley athletes can wear green. Students alternatively are also able to wear normal school uniform.

Speaking of fantastic efforts our Senior Debaters have made it through to the next round and will go head to head with South West Rocks today. Last week we also held the Public Speaking school finals, our adjudicator Lissa Argue was impressed with Scotts Head students compelling, engaging and dynamic speeches. This Weeks Award Winners

Focus on Learning - Year 1/2

The Year 1/2 class have been busily achieving great work over that last few weeks!

In literacy, we successfully created and presented our persuasive speeches about our favourite animals. There were some very convincing speeches – well done Year 1/2!  Now we are working on our skills and making progress in writing by using adjectives, verbs and adverbs to enhance our sentences.

Maths is one of our favourite subjects at the moment. We have been playing lots of fun games, like bingo, to consolidate and display our understandings. We have been enjoying writing on our whiteboards to show how quick we can show our number facts.

In history we have been exploring Past and Present forms of communication and how they have changed over the decades and centuries. We have some amazing creators in the class who have designed some next generation communication devices, including remote controls that support teleportation! Amazing!

Sport has seen us focusing on the upcoming Athletics Carnival, working on our 100m sprints, and perfecting our long jump technique. We can’t wait to showcase our athletic skills, participate in activities and cheer on our houses on the day.

We have been practicing how to be mindful using different strategies including Smiling Minds meditation and Mindful Mats which incorporate brain teasing mazes and calming colouring in.

Boys PSSA Touch Football

Last Wednesday our Boys Touch Football team played against Mullaway Public School in the PSSA Knock-out Competition. After trailing 3-1 at half time, the team rallied with wonderful team work and execution to run out winners 5-3. The highlight was the respect the team showed for their opponents during and after the game. The Mullaway coach reported to the school how impressed he was with our boys, on and off the field. Well done, team.

Girls PSSA Touch Football

On Tuesday our Girls Touch Football team travelled to Woolgoolga to play the 2nd round of the PSSA Touch Football Knockout Competition. We versed Mullaway Public School. The girls showed great teamwork and sportsmanship. Sadly, we lost but we had a great time and everyone persevered.

Thank you to Bu Deb and Bu Louise for driving all the girls to Woolgoolga.

Public Speaking

Last Friday we held our school Public Speaking finals. The adjudicator, Lissa Argue, was most impressed by how articulate, confident and prepared our students were. We are really proud of all our students, who each stood up in front of their class to deliver their speeches.

Well done to all the amazing finalists:

Stage 3 - Tom, Freya, Cohen, Wolfe, Georgie, Reed, Lior and Payton.

Stage 2 - Charlie, Tarrin, Riley, Sarah, Joselyn, Ashlyn, Frieda, Kadek and Aili (absent)

Congratulations to Wolfe and Lior (Stage 3), Tarrin and Riley (Stage 2) who will be representing all of us at the District finals on Thursday at West Kempsey Public School. We wish them the best of luck as they challenge themselves against the best public speakers in our district.

Year 6 Transition Day

Last Thursday, Year 6 went to Macksville High School for a Transition Day. The day included meeting some of the great teachers, a library scavenger hunt, a STEM project, robotics and PE games in the hall. The students enthusiastically embraced the challenges and were excellent representatives of our school.

COVID-19 and our School

With the cold and flu season upon us, we would like to remind parents and carers that in accordance with advice from NSW Health, students should not attend school if they are unwell, even if they have the mildest flu-like symptoms.

Please advise the school of your child’s absence on the first day they are away from school and advise of any symptoms they may be experiencing. You can do this by phone, email or via the Skoolbag app.

Students who are unwell with flu-like symptoms are strongly encouraged to get tested and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.

Please provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result and be symptom-free before being permitted to return to school. You can simply email a screenshot of the text message you receive to the school: scottshead-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au.

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind all visitors to the school, that they must sign the school sign-in sheet where they acknowledge that they will comply with the COVID-19 requirements for visitors, contractors and service providers each time they visit. Visitors must also check in using the Service NSW QR code.
