Mask Mania

A big thank you to our Librarian, Mrs Piper and all the teachers who worked together to help our children celebrate Book Week 2020.

Lockdown Action

Last Thursday the school enacted a lockdown procedure as a result of an announcement from a police helicopter overhead.  It was satisfying to see our staff and students react quickly and followed the procedures we have trained for in an orderly manner.

The police were contacted for further details, the department was informed, Workplace Health and safety were informed and importantly our parents were informed through our Skoolbag App. After the lockdown a check-in was conducted with all students and staff able to debrief and discuss feelings. We could inform the students that the police helicopter was looking for an elderly man with dementia. It was great to know that we were all safe and sound.

Thank you to the many parents who contacted the school after receiving the Skoolbag notification and expressing their thanks that the lockdown was handled smoothly.

Over the course of the year, the school practices both lockdown and evacuation drills. If ever necessary, it is great to know that we will be able to react quickly and calmly.  Well done staff and students!

Geography Yr 5 excursion

Class 5E made a visit to the Melrose Park (north) development site as part of their local inquiry into how humans shape places - which they are learning about in geography. An active site situated so close to the school provided an ideal opportunity for the students to experience what the future could hold for the local area, and our young investigators wasted no time in interacting with the on-site staff and the scaled-down, 3-D models of the developers' vision for Melrose Park (north). Many questions were raised, with topics ranging from pets in new dwellings to the estimated increase in traffic(!). Students learnt that a lot of planning and research went into big development projects such as these, and that the community, developers and the government all need to work together to ensure a sustainable future that takes into account the various factors that shape places.  We thank PAYCE developments, M Projects  and Nik, for the opportunity to visit and learn first hand of the exciting transformation that will occur in the Melrose Park community.

Reflections and thoughts posed by our Yr 5 students

  • In 10 years time, I will be 20. I wonder what type of job I could have in the new development.
  • In 20 years time, I will be 30. I wonder if I will live here with my kids.
  • Will there be electric cars?
  • Will the light rail be operating?

P&C Donation

I would like to thank the P&C for the donation of  a set of 10 ipads and laptops for students to use. The devices will be up and running for the new school year.  Thank you for the support you give to the school programs that benefits all students across the school.

The last P&C meeting for the year will be a virtual meeting next Monday evening.

An exciting change to the OOSH holiday program is that lunch will be provided for all children.
