Principals Column

Hello, Giinagay, Hai

Attendance

Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. It is really important for our school to work in partnership with parents/carers to encourage and support regular attendance of children and young people. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.

Currently 60% of our students have an attendance level of 90% and above and 15% are sitting in the 85-90% range.  Our focus for this year, is to see if we can lift these rates.

Did You Know….?

For every day of school missed by student will reduce their attendance by 0.5%.

Ten whole days of school has been missed if your child has 95% attendance.

Twenty whole days of school has been missed if a student attendance is 90%.

By the time a student is persistently absent (85% attendance) they have missed 6 weeks or half a term of schooling.

Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) Service at Scotts Head Public School

For the last three years we have been working towards opening an OSHC at the school. We have now just got approval to operate an OSHC here on the school grounds in the LLLCC.  Lifetime Connect and the OSHC service have begun the process to establish an OSHC, initially just after school, so we will keep you posted.

OSHC is supervised care and recreation for primary school-age children:

  • After school 3.00pm to 6.00pm

How much does before and after school care cost?

Costs of OSHC care are $22 for the afternoon session. There are childcare subsidies to reduce the cost of OSHC care available for eligible families. We have all fingers crossed the service will be able to get up and running to help solve the issues of childcare for families.

A google survey link is listed below. is attached, as we need updated information about the use of the service, so the school can have accurate number of families who would be accessing the service.

Guiding Grans

A huge thank you to a group of like-minded people, known as the Guiding Grans established in 2018, under the leadership of our previous Principal and outstanding community minded Angie Evans. This group provides much needed school supplies to our community and the children of the Nambucca Valley. We appreciate all the energy, love and time you all put in.

District Swimming

Good luck to all the students that will be competing in the pool this Friday. Parents unfortunately again are unable to attend. Thanks in advance to Pak Chris, Uncle Ritchie and Bu Bella, who will be supporting our students at the carnival.

Thanks, yaarri yaraang, terima kasih.

Bread Tags For Wheelchairs

Collect your bread tags at home and bring them in to school! We are collecting bread tags to send off to the Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs group. We have a jar at the office to collect the bread tags and Scotts Hub are also collecting them. We'll send them off once we get a bag full.

The bread tags are recycled in Robe, South Australia, by Transmutation, run by Brad and Narelle Scott. Transmutation run a craft plastic recycling operation and retail shop, selling their own products, as well as other products supplied by Australian artisans that share their vision to recycle, reuse and reduce landfill.

Transmutation take monthly shipments of bread tags from us, recycling the tags to make bowls, boards, coasters and door knobs. These products can be purchased online, from their shop in Robe, or from their distributors around Australia. White boards and bowls are available at some Country Road outlets.
